Eagles Beat Togo 3-0 in Friendly
Match
The Super Eagles of Nigeria
showed how prepared they are for Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa
after they thrashed the Hawks of Togo 3-0 in an international friendly match on
Thursday. The game, which took place at the Stade Municipal de Saint Leu La Foret
in Paris, France, was the second of two friendlies meant to prepare the
national team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa
on June 10. Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa scored twice in the 3rd minute and in
the 17th, before Kelechi Iheanacho secured the convincing win against the
Claude Leroy-led team ten minutes after the second goal. Iheanacho has now
scored seven goals in ten games for the team. He also scored the in the last
friendly against Corsica which ended 1-1 on Friday. Alex Iwobi provided the two
assists for the first and second goals, while Oghenekaro Etebo’s assist helped
Iheanacho finish the job. 18-year-old Wolfsburg striker Victor Osimhen and
Tyronne Ebuehi who both came in as substitutes made their official debuts for
the Super Eagles, as well as Henry Onyekuru, Uche Agbo and Sikiru Olatunbosun,
Alhassan Ibrahim, Stephen Odey and Mikel Agu. Ikechukwu Ezenwa was on goal for
70 minutes before Dele Alampasu came in as a substitute and kept the goal post
safe for the rest of the game. Gernot Rohr’s men will now return to host the
Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their opening game of the Afcon qualifier at
Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
