Waoh! Brazil Qualifies
for 2018 FIFA World Cup
South American giants Brazil has
become the first team to seal their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in
Russia. Brazil secured a 3-0 win over Paraguay early Wednesday, as Argentina
and Uruguay suffered 2-0 and 3-1 defeats respectively. Philippe Coutinho,
Neymar and Marcelo scored Brazil’s goals. Neymar also missed a penalty as his
side moved nine points clear of second-placed Colombia. It was Brazil’s eighth
straight win under new coach Tite
As it stands, Brazil are 9 points
clear off second-placed Columbia, who are followed by Uruguay, Chile and
Argentina in that order. With the top four teams from the 10-nation qualifying
group going on to represent at the global competition, Brazil is now already a
team to watch in Russia as they cannot finish lower than fourth in the South
American qualifying.
Meanwhile, two-time World Cup
winners Argentina face a battle to qualify for Russia with their 2-0 defeat to
Bolivia leaving them fifth. And with Lionel Messi on a four-match ban, they are
on the verge of finishing fifth with just four qualifiers remaining.
